Tension prevailed in various parts of the city again as a reaction to yet another defamatory post related to a national figure on social networking sites on Sunday. As many as 25 PMPML buses were pelted with stones, said the police.

The buses were damaged in both Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. PMPML spokesman Deepak Pardeshi said: “The incidents started in the afternoon and continued till evening in Pimpri, Chinchwad and on Sinhagad Road. This is another big loss for us after 218 buses were damaged a week ago over another objectionable post on social networking sites.” The police have detained some people in connection with the stone-pelting.

Rajendra Mane, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III), said: “We urge people not to believe in rumours and spread them. We have continued with the police deployment which was already in place as a precautionary measure.
