Madhuri Dixit was one of the top stars of Bollywood in the 1990s when she decided that she wanted to leave it all behind, and move to the US to be with her husband, Dr Sriram Nene. A few years later, Madhuri and her husband, along with their sons, moved back to India, which caused a significant disruption in Madhuri’s career but the actor recently said that her husband is a bigger blessing in her life than her career. She also said that she was quite hesitant about getting fixed up, or getting married back in the 90s as she believed that she was living her best possible life, and was concerned that a bad partner could ruin it all.

In a chat with Ranveer Allahabadia on his YouTube channel, Madhuri said that her siblings would often try to fix her up back in the day but she would just tell them, “Don’t you dare!” When asked why, she shared, “Because I loved what I did. My career was like… everyday was fun, and I would think that if I am with someone who is not right for me, then the fun is gone. And I just loved what I was doing, so I didn’t even think about it.”

Madhuri was seen in many romantic dramas in this era and she said that it was never about the male actors she performed with; she just loved the idea of love, and that helped her in her performance. “I love to love. Just thinking about love is romantic to me. Even if you give me a rock, I can romance it,” she said. In the midst of all this, Madhuri met Dr Nene, who had no idea about her success as a movie star, and in six months of meeting each other, they decided to get married.

Calling their marriage a “great combination of art and science”, Madhuri shared that they have “mutual respect, love, admiration” and that they have always “encouraged each other to do stuff.” “He has always encouraged me and is positive about whatever I am doing, and that always helps,” she said. When asked if theirs was an arranged marriage, Madhuri shared, “Not really,” and added, “We were introduced by my brother, but we dated for six months before we actually decided that we are right for each other and we should get married.” She also said that Dr Nene’s dedication as a doctor impressed her. “He has a great bedside manner; he truly cares about his patients. He has this ability and curiosity to get an in-depth undertsanding about every subject that interests him,” she said.

When asked if he was the “biggest blessing” in her life, she said, “I think we are a blessing in each other’s lives. And my kids are the biggest blessings.” When asked if Dr Nene was a bigger blessing than her career, Madhuri said, “Career was there, it still is, and it will continue to exist, but I think the bigger blessing is my husband. Why? Because if you are not happy in your actual life, no matter what you achieve, you will not get happiness from it. Because you have no one to share it with.” She added, “One day, people are going to forget you and who is going to be with you? Your companion, that’s why he takes a bigger place.”

Madhuri is one of the most successful actors of all time in Bollywood. Her most famous films include Dil, Tezaab, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Dil To Pagal Hai, Khalnayak, Pukar, among many others.
