Chirag Da, who was the member of Purvi Bihar Paschimottar Jharkhand Special Area Committee, was wanted in 20 cases in Bihar and over three dozen cases in Jharkhand.

Dreaded Maoist Chirag Da alias Pramod alias Ram Chandra Mahto was shot dead in a police encounter Saturday morning at the Charkapaththar area of Jamui forests, said police.

Chirag Da, who was the member of Purvi Bihar Paschimottar Jharkhand Special Area Committee, was wanted in 20 cases in Bihar and over three dozen cases in Jharkhand. He carried a bounty of Rs 25 lakh on his head in Jharkhand and Rs 5 lakh in Bihar.

IG (Operations) S M Khopde said the killing of Chirag Da was a big feat by the joint team of Bihar Police and CRPF. With Jharkhand Police launching a massive crackdown against them, most rebels are moving to Bihar, said the police.

Chirag Da, who belonged to Nawadih in Jharkhand’s Bokaro, had been commander of Jamui Banka zone besides being a special area committee member. A looted police rifle, a 9-mm pistol, a country made rifle, three live cartridges and three cellphones were recovered from the spot.
