Filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan conferred Bhupen Hazarika award

Renowned filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan was conferred the second Bhupen Hazarika International Solidarity Award.

Renowned filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan was conferred the second Bhupen Hazarika International Solidarity Award for 2015 at a glittering function on Sunday here. The award, instituted by Asam Sahitya Sabha, the highest literary body of Assam, was given away by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

Receiving the award, Gopalakrishnan said that he was honoured being chosen for the coveted award instituted in the memory of a musical genius who had contributed immensely towards social harmony and peace. “The world of music and cinema, too, was enriched by Bhupen Hazarika in his own typical way. The rich legacy left behind by Bhupen Hazarika will continue to be a source of strength and inspiration to the present and future generations,” he said.

Instituted in 2013 in the memory of the renowned musician, Adoor Gopalakrishnan became the second recipient of this biennial award, the first being Lubna Marium of Bangladesh. The award consists of a citation, a handwoven endi chadar, a memento and cash of Rs 5 lakh.
