I wish I had more scenes with Tom Hanks: Ewan Mc Gregor
Hollywood actor Ewan McGregor has finally tasted mainstream success with his latest film 'Angels and Demons'.
Hollywood actor Ewan McGregor, who has finally tasted mainstream success with his latest film ‘Angels and Demons’,regrets not being able to spend more screen time with his co-star Tom Hanks, whom he considers a “legend”.
“Tom is such a lovely man and a great, great actor,a legend. We had some stuff together, which was great, but really, our stories run parallel,so he’s off elsewhere while I’m doing my stuff. I wish we could have done more,” the actor said.
McGregor who became the darling of the independent cinema circuit with his portrayal of anarchist and rebellious characters, steps away from that zone with his role in ‘Angels and Demons’ where he plays a misguided Christian priest.
The film which will be released in India on May 29,opened at the top of the US box-office on May 17 with an opening weekend take of USD 48 million.
And it is no surprise that the 38-year-old actor claims that ‘Angels and Demons’ is the biggest film of his career.
“It’s a big,big movie and I haven’t done a film on this scale since ‘The Island’ which sent me scuttling back into independent film like a crab,” said the ‘Moulin Rouge’star.
The actor who had shot to fame with his portrait of a heroin addict in Danny Boyle’s 1996 ‘Train Spotting’ said that it was difficult for him to get into character as a fanatical priest.
“I had to prepare myself to get into the skin of the character, but it was not that easy. It was really very challenging to undergo the gamut of expressions that my character goes through the film,” said the actor, adding that having director Ron Howard at the helm helped him.
“It’s nice to have a director like Ron who can actually direct and can actually help you in terms of the performance so that if you’re stuck,or if you’re thinking about how to get from this bit to this bit emotionally, then Ron’s really good at being able to help you out, because he’s been an actor himself,” said the actor.
McGregor who played the futuristic warrior Obi-Wan Kenobi in the super hit ‘Star Wars’ prequel trilogy has been a keen motorcyclist since his youth and took a marathon motorcycle trip around Europe and Africa for a documentary called ‘Long Way Around’.
When asked whether he has any plans to visit India on a similar adventure,McGregor replied,”Between 2004 and 2007,I’d done two big motorcycle trips and two long stints at the theatre and I really feel that I had to make my mark in films again and so I am working on projects back to back and don’t have time for exploring anything new now but let’s see what time permits me.”
The actor will next be seen along with George Clooney in the Iraq war drama ‘Men Who Stare At Goats” and Indian director’s Meera Nair’s Amelia Earhart bio-pic ‘Amelia’. Both films will be out later this year.
