No terror angle in Vipin Sharma’s murder, says ATS

The Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) of the Punjab Police, which is assisting the Amritsar police in trying to crack the murder of Hindu Sangarsh Sena district president Vipin Sharma, has denied any terror angle in the case after preliminary investigations.

Talking with The Indian Express, Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, IGP ATS, said, “We have detained some persons in relation with murder of Vipin Sharma. At this moment, I want to make it clear that there is no terror angle in this case. There is no need to create any kind of tension between communities on this murder.”

He added, “This is a case of personal rivalry. We will soon explain what exactly is that rivalry. But I again want to deny any terror angle in this case….We have been looking into this case and soon we will give more details.”

The ATS officer also said that he wanted to “make an appeal that no community should give any statement against any other community in this case. Because there is no terror angle in it”.

According to Singh, Vipin Sharma’s case has no link with the unsolved murders of socio-religious leaders in Punjab over last one and half years. “This murder was executed differently. There is no parallel with those murders. It is case of personal rivalry,” he claimed.

Vipin Sharma was also in business of finance, apart from being a cable operator.

He was shot dead by unidentified attackers on Monday afternoon. Several Hindu outfits had imposed a band in Amritsar on Tuesday alleging that Khalistani militants were behind the killing. Several political leaders had called the murder an attempt to disrupt communal harmony of state.
