MIHAN: Firms sitting idle to be heard by govt, might have land allotments terminated

This was decided at a meeting of the MIHAN Task Force here on Sunday.

Companies that have taken land in Multimodal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) project area, but are potential non-starters might get an extension and their problems might be redressed by the government. However, despite all support from the government, if they fail to start operations, allotment of their land might be terminated.

This was decided at a meeting of the MIHAN Task Force here on Sunday. The meeting was chaired by Union Surface Transport and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari and attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Out of over 90 companies that have purchased land in MIHAN, only about 30 have started operations.

“It was decided that meetings with non-starter companies would be held in Mumbai and Delhi and their problems would be heard. The government would do everything to push them to start operations. Those companies that would not initiate any activity would be given termination orders after a three-year window,” sources told The Indian Express.

At the meeting, it was also decided that an international marketing firm would be hired to canvas the project here. “It was decided that an international company with expertise in marketing projects would be hired to attract investors to MIHAN,” said MIHAN PRO Deepak Joshi.

Ernst & Young is preparing international bids for the new airport to be constructed on a public-private partnership basis. Another decision pertained to inviting hotel companies to set up an international standard hotel and convention centre at MIHAN where global meetings and trade fairs would be held.
