VHP’s reminder to PM: People voted for both ‘vikas’ and ‘Ram mandir’

Jain said Ram temple was in the agenda of the BJP and it was “among the core issues on which the party will work with priority”.

Stating that the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government lost power at Centre as it could not fulfill the promise of constructing the Ram temple in Ayodhya, a senior Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) functionary Sunday reminded the NDA government that people voted for Narendra Modi not only for “vikas (development)” but also for the “Ram mandir”.

Narendra Modi is a sharp politician. He is working with a plan to run the government for a long time. We are sure that the government will cooperate in building the Ram temple,” said VHP’s national joint general secretary Surendra Jain said.

Jain said Ram temple was in the agenda of the BJP and it was “among the core issues on which the party will work with priority”.

Commenting on the Dadri lynching, Jain said VHP doesn’t have any problem with meat consumption but it won’t accept any “compromise” on protecting cow which is “linked with the sentiments of Hindu” religion. “Country’s two-third population, including Hindus, consume meat. We do not demand ban on meat consumption. But beef consumption should be banned,” he added.

Jain also attacked the Akhilesh Yadav government over “appeasement of Muslims”. He said “pseudo-secular leaders and parties” were trying to establish “Ravan Rajya” in UP that had been the land of “Ram Rajya”. He said the Samajwadi Party government has opened the state exchequer for the minority community.

“When a Hindu is killed, neither the accused are arrested, nor the victim’s family gets any financial relief. The government gave Rs 45 lakh to one person’s family in Dadri, but did not give help to sub-inspector Manoj Mishra who was killed by cow traffickers,” Jain alleged.

Claiming that the government was “appeasing the minority community for the sake of a few votes,” Jain asked why there has been no action against such mosques that have been constructed in the state on land grabbed illegally.

“Why do link of terrorists get established with madrasas here? Why do Muslim clerics come in support of terrorists? Situation is volatile. Dadri and Mainpuri incidents are two such examples,” he added.

He also demanded that state minority welfare minister Azam Khan should be booked on charges of sedition and creating communal hatred between Hindus and Muslims by taking a state issue to the United Nations. Jain said that Azam’s move was a “stupid act” and aimed at seeking sympathy.
