The in-camera trial of the Park Street rape case began on Saturday at third Fast Track Court at city sessions Court.

Madhuchanda Bose,the judge of the fast track court,explained the decision of holding the trial in camera saying the incident was sensitive. “The next hearing will take place on March 13-14,” Deputy Commissioner (Detective Department) Santosh Pandey said.

Earlier on February 19,the court had framed charges against Nishad Khan alias Ruman Khan,Naseer Khan and Sumit Bajaj,who are in judicial custody,for raping a woman on the night of February 5 last year after giving her a lift in a car at upscale Park Street.

Two other accused — Kader Khan and Mohammed Ali — are still absconding.

Today Kajol Mondal,a police official of the Detective Department,appeared give his testimony. Mondal prepared the map of the Park Hotel from where the woman boarded the car. Mondal also prepared the map of the Exide Crossing where she was was thrown out of the moving car after being allegedly gangraped at a gunpoint.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had courted a controversy after she dubbed the incident as “cooked-up”.

However,then Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Damayanti Sen cracked the case and arrested three of the accused.
