Hundreds of Tibetans gathered in Majnu Ka Tilla in North Delhi to protest against the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Sunday afternoon.
The protestors gathered with flags and shouted slogans, urging the Indian government to reinforce the issue of Tibet in talks with the Chinese Foreign Minister.
“The crisis in Tibet over the past few years has only worsened, which is why Tibetans and Tibet activists around the world are intensifying efforts to urge countries such as India to build pressure on China to end the severe repression in Tibet,” a statement issued by Students For a Free Tibet stated.
Citing human rights violation, protesters also urged the government to issue a strong statement against provocative policies and crisis in Tibet.
“It is time now to device a country strategy for China. The Government of India should bring Tibet’s issue on the table this time,” Rashi Juahri, deputy programme director of Students For a Free Tibet, said.
The protesters also sought that the Indian government raise the issue of border incursions into Ladakh and territory conflict in Arunachal Pradesh.
“China’s imperialist and draconian plans for regional domination now expands beyond Tibet with incursions by Chinese troops on Indian Territory in Eastern Ladakh, conflict surrounding Arunachal Pradesh and re-routing of the river, Brahmaputra. With the growing security and border tensions between India and China, Tibet’s freedom is the only viable and permanent solution to the conflict,” the statement said.
No protestors were detained during the protest, police said.
