‘Voice of Malwa’ Ankhi bid final farewell by literati

This final goodbye was said a bit differently. Novelist Ram Sarup Ankhi was bid a final adieu by his friends,writers and family at a ceremony where religious rituals had no place.

As the gathering paid rich tributes to the deceased writer,a book exhibition-cum-sale was also organised.

Prominent litterateurs recalled their association with the Sahitya Akademi Award winner on the occasion and their message was just one — ‘Read Punjabi literature’,just as Ankhi would have liked it.

Prominent writers like Manmohan Bawa,Jaswant Singh Kanwal,Gulzar Sandhu and Ajmer Aulakh,playwright Atamjit Singh,critic Rajneesh Bahadur and Sukirat,S Tarsem,Tejwant Mann,T R Modgil,Inder Singh Khamosh recalled Ankhi’s contribution to literature.

Offering his condolences,vice-president of Sahitya Akademi Dr S S Noor said: “In Ankhi,Malwa has lost its voice.”

Director World Punjabi Center Dr Deepak Manhohan Singh,advisor World Punjabi Center Amarjeet Singh Grewal,poet Dr Surjit Patar too expressed their regret on the demise of the writer.

Manmohan Bawa said: “Ankhi had built such relationships in his life time that they will not die,even when he is not physically around us. He will always be there with us in our hearts.”
