Karnataka polls: CM Bommai files nomination; value of his immovable assets grew three-fold in 5 yrs

The affidavit submitted by him showed the value of his immovable assets grew three times from Rs 6.09 crore in 2018 to Rs 22.95 crore in 2023.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai Saturday filed his nomination papers from the Shiggaon constituency. The CM has represented the constituency thrice since 2008 and won by around 9,000 votes in the last election.

The affidavit submitted by him showed the value of his immovable assets grew three times from Rs 6.09 crore in 2018 to Rs 22.95 crore in 2023. Movable assets of Bommai also increased two and a half times from Rs 2.32 crore to Rs 5.98 crore over the last five years.

Among the assets declared by Bommai include agricultural land at Hubli taluk, non-agricultural land at Bengaluru and Hubballi, industrial sheds at Dharwad, Doddaballapur and Karwar, and residential buildings and apartments. Among the most recent acquisitions by the CM was a three-acre agricultural land at Tarihala village in Hubli taluk, purchased in March 2022.

The rest of the immovable assets, as per the affidavit, were purchased before 2018.

Speaking to reporters after filing his nomination, Bommai said that he was confident of winning the seat by a record margin. “People are so enthusiastic and support is coming from all sections of people,” he said.
