The Raja Saab budget and box office collection: With the release of director Maruthi’s Prabhas-starrer The Raja Saab right around the corner, fans of the ‘Rebel Star’ are all pumped and set to turn the occasion into a monumental one. While the fact that the movie’s advance bookings haven’t commenced yet, despite less than 48 hours to go for its scheduled release date, has been a matter of concern for the actor’s admirers, they are hopeful that the obstacles will be cleared in the coming hours and that the horror-comedy will hit the screens on the previously announced date.
Although ticket sales for the movie have yet to begin in India, advance bookings are progressing rapidly in the overseas market, suggesting a massive opening. According to industry trackers, The Raja Saab is witnessing phenomenal bookings in the United States (US). As per Venky Box Office, the film has already collected USD 7,15,038 (Rs 6.42 crore) in advance booking from the US, selling 25,869 tickets for 1,406 shows across 513 locations. The movie has collected over USD 7,50,000 (Rs 6.74 crore) from the entire North America as of January 7 morning.

The Raja Saab trails behind Jana Nayagan in overseas market
However, the horror-comedy is trailing behind director H Vinoth’s ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan in the overseas market. While Jana Nayagan has minted a mammoth USD 3.90 million (about Rs 35 crore) in overseas advance bookings thus far, according to industry tracker Sacnilk, The Raja Saab has managed to collect only USD 1.22 million (approximately Rs 11 crore), highlighting that the Vijay-starrer is storming ahead at a massive pace.
Mounted on a reported budget of Rs 300 crore, the Prabhas-starrer must gross over Rs 400 crore worldwide to be dubbed a hit, with Rs 300 crore coming from the home market of Telugu alone. The Raja Saab’s box office prospects also hinge on how well the movie performs in the Hindi market. According to data available on the Central Board of Film Certification’s (CBFC) site, the 189-minute horror-comedy has been granted a UA 16+ certificate.
Andhra Pradesh govt allows ticket rate hikes
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government has granted permission to the makers of The Raja Saab to screen a special show of the film and to raise ticket prices for a limited period. According to an order issued by the government on Wednesday, January 7, a special show of the horror comedy can be organised on Thursday between 6 pm and 12 am with a ticket rate of Rs 1,000, including GST. The government has also allowed an increase in ticket prices, with a hike of Rs 150 in single-screen theatres and Rs 200 in multiplexes, for a duration of 10 days starting on the release day. As a result, tickets for the movie will reportedly cost Rs 297 in single-screen theatres and Rs 377 in multiplexes.
Also starring Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, Riddhi Kumar, and Zarina Wahab, The Raja Saab boasts music by Thaman S, cinematography by Karthik Palani, editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao, and production design by Rajeevan. The horror-comedy will hit the screens on January 9, coinciding with Sankranti.
