The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Wednesday released the first list of candidates fielded for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024 in Tamil Nadu.

According to the list announced by party General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, the party has nominated former MP J Jayavardhan and ex-MLA Dr P Saravanan. Recalling 2014 Lok Sabha elections, where the party had contested alone and won 37 of the 39 seats in the state, Palaniswami said it was capable of repeating the performance this time too.

“AIADMK is a strong party with about 2 crore members, 30 years in the ruling saddle and we ensured a big victory in 2014…people will decide (in our favour) as our clout has increased among the public. AIADMK will win the polls,” said Palaniswami, while speaking to reporters, PTI reported.

Ahead of the rollout of GST 2.0 effective from September 22, companies have announced lower prices for over 375 common-use goods. The government has urged corporates to pass on the benefits to consumers, resulting in cheaper prices for FMCG products, milk, butter, cheese, pickles, jams, and ice creams. Other items like shampoo, soap, cement, durable goods, and cars may also see a reduction.
