As torrential rains swept through Dubai for a second consecutive day on Tuesday, schools, offices, and even the city’s iconic Global Village struggled to stay open, reported a local media house. The Emirates Education Foundation has issued an order to continue distance learning on Tuesday for all government schools and state agencies have requested private educational institutions to abide by the order as well.

The Knowledge and Human Authority in Dubai (KHDA) requested all private schools, nurseries, and universities to accommodate the distance learning order for Tuesday, reported the local media house, Khaleej Times.

Khaleej Times further noted that the unstable stable weather of hail and thunderstorms especially affected UAE’s Al Anin region. During the intense storms, several homes, schools, and cars were damaged in the area which is under red alert by the state weather agency, the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM).

According to the media house’s report, such action has been taken to protect the well-being of the students. Moreover, in light of the inclement weather, several public and private sector companies also declared work from home on Monday as a result of waterlogged roads and traffic congestion.

Meanwhile, the city’s iconic landmark, the Global Village was shut down on Monday due to the aggressive weather. Through a post on X (formerly Twitter), the tourist destination officials informed that it would reopen on Tuesday, February 13 as the weather improved.

“Due to adverse weather conditions and in order to assure the safety of our guests, Global Village will remain closed for today, February 12,” read the post on X, reported Khaleej Times.
