Britain has recently revised its travel rules for citizens travelling to the United States to include a warning that anyone found breaching the entry rules in the US could face arrest or detention.
After US President Donald Trump took office on January 20, he issued multiple executive orders related to immigration with a spotlight on tighter border policy, strict visa vetting procedures and a crackdown on undocumented migrants in the United States.
Germany also updated its travel advisory related to the United States on Wednesday and advised its citizens that a visa or entry waiver does not guarantee entry.
Germany’s US travel advisory update came in after several German nationals were detained at the US border recently.
The advisory issued by Britain’s foreign office regarding US travel stated, “You should comply with all entry, visa and other conditions of entry.”
The advisory added, “The authorities in the US set and enforce entry rules strictly. You may be liable to arrest or detention if you break the rules.”
According to a Reuters report, the archived version of the UK’s foreign office website on US travel advisory for February stated, “The authorities in the U.S. set and enforce entry rules.”
The UK’s foreign office declined to comment upon the developments but added that travel advice by the government is there to help citizens make informed decision and the advice was constantly kept under review.
Earlier, media reports have indicated that a woman had been detained at the US border for about 10 days due to a possible violation of visa rules, and later the UK’s foreign office had confirmed that it was in touch of a British national detained in the US who was being provided support.
