Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) lawmaker G Lasya Nanditha was killed in a road accident on the outskirts of Hyderabad early Friday. The accident took place on the Sultanpur Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Telangana’s Sangareddy district. The BRS leader’s car rammed into a barrier near sadashivpet, leading to fatal injuries. Nanditha was brought to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. The car's driver suffered injuries in the incident, according to police. Who was Lasya Nanditha? Nanditha, the daughter of late BRS leader G Sayanna, made her political debut about a decade ago. The 36-year-old legislator was elected from the Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly constituency in the Assembly polls last November. She defeated the BJP candidate, Ganesh N, by 17,169 votes. She secured the BRS nomination following the death of her father, a five-time MLA from the same constituency. Previously, Nandita served as Municipal Corporator from Kavadiguda in Hyderabad in 2016. She stepped down from the post in December 2020, after losing the municipal polls. BRS leadership pays tribute to Nanditha Several top BRS leaders paid tribute to Nanditha following her demise. Condoling her death, BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao issued a statement, assuring his party’s support to her bereaved family. Meanwhile, senior BRS leader KT Rama Rao paid tribute to Nanditha, calling her a “very good leader in the making”. Meanwhile, Revanth Reddy recalled his close association with her late father. "It is tragic that Sayanna died in February last year and Lasya Nanditha also passed away suddenly during the same month (in a span of one year)," he said. Expressing her sorrow over Nanditha’s death, BRS MLC K Kavitha wrote: “The death of Cantonment MLA and sister Lasya Nandita in a road accident came as a shock. The untimely death of Lasya Nandita, who was elected MLA at a young age and devoted herself to public service in the footsteps of her late father Sayanna, is extremely sad. Praying God to rest the soul of Lasya Nandita..My deepest condolences to her family members."
