Telangana BRS MLA deathBharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) lawmaker G Lasya Nanditha was killed in a car accident early Friday morning

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA G Lasya Nanditha, 36, died in a car accident near Sultanpur in Telangana’s Sangareddy district on Friday morning.

According to a member of her family, the MLA from Secunderabad Cantonment was returning to Hyderabad from Basara when her car rammed into a barrier on the Outer Ring Road (ORR). While Nanditha suffered fatal injuries, her driver and personal security officer (PSO) are in a critical condition.

Police said the driver must have either fallen asleep or lost control of the car while trying to avoid another vehicle that may have slowed down in front of them. “The front portion of the SUV is a mangled wreck. The vehicle was travelling at a high speed when it rammed into the barrier,” an officer said.

Nanditha, the daughter of late BRS leader G Sayanna, was elected for the first time from Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly constituency in the Assembly election that took place in November, last year. She had got the BRS nomination following the death of her father, a five-time MLA from the same constituency. Earlier, she had been elected as Municipal Corporator from Hyderabad’s Kavadiguda in 2016, but in the 2020 municipal elections, she did not win.

BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao issued a statement expressing his condolences and assuring the party’s support to her bereaved family. Senior BRS leader KT Rama Rao also paid tribute to Nanditha, calling her a “very good leader in the making”.

“Just now heard the absolutely tragic and shocking news that Lasya is no more!! Woke up to the devastating loss of the young legislator who was a very good leader in the making. My heartfelt prayers for strength to her family and friends in this terrible and difficult time,” KTR wrote on X.

Leaders from other parties also expressed condolences. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee senior vice-president G Niranjan said he was shocked at the news. “It is unfortunate that she lost her life in an accident at a young age, within three months of her election to the Assembly,” he said.

Minister of Irrigation, Food and Civil Supplies, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, and TPCC working president Mahesh Kumar Goud also expressed shock and sadness.
