In a video shared widely on social media, Mazahir Ali can be heard asking for help, saying that he was assaulted and robbed by four people who “kicked and punched” him.
Following the incident, his wife, Syeda Ruquliya Fatima Rizvi, a resident of Hyderabad, sought assistance from External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to ensure medical treatment for Mazahir Ali and to facilitate travel arrangements for her and their three minor children to join him in the US.
‘Who is’ Syed Mazahir Ali?
Syed Mazahir Ali was pursuing a master’s degree student at Indiana Wesleyan University in the United States when the incident occurred.
In the now-viral video, Mazahir Ali is seen being chased by his assailants while returning home. He appears to have been ambushed by the four attackers, who are seen kicking and punching him.
Issuing a plea for help, Ali is seen bleeding profusely from his face.

Having relocated to the United States from Hyderabad six months ago to pursue a Master’s degree in Information Technology at Indiana Wesleyan University, Ali expressed deep trauma following the incident.
According to PTI reports, the Indian consulate in Chicago has intervened, collaborating with local authorities to investigate the attack.
This is the latest in a series of attacks on Indian American students in the past month. Five Indian students were found dead in various parts of the country in January 2024.
