Gurugram University not listed on CBSE portal, 100 job openings out of bounds for alumni
A large number of students from rural parts of Capital have pursued higher education at Gurugram University and are now facing serious career setback.
During the ceremony, 24 officers, subordinate officers and other ranks, including retired BSF personnel, were conferred with police medals for meritorious service in recognition of their dedication and exemplary service. Nearly 100 posts advertised online by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) are out of bounds for candidates who graduated from Gurugram University. The reason? The varsity has not been listed as a recognised university for applicants on the recruitment portal.
In a notice issued on December 2, the CBSE invited applications for various posts, including assistant secretary, accountant, and assistant professor, requiring graduation or a higher qualification, depending on the job requirement. The deadline for submitting online applications is December 22.
Gurugram University, established in 2017 by the Haryana government, has jurisdiction over several colleges in Gurgaon and neighbouring areas, that were previously affiliated to the Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) Rohtak. Even as MDU makes the list of accepted universities, Gurugram University is not an option, leaving its alumni unable to proceed with their job applications.
Speaking with The Indian Express, Gurugram University Vice-Chancellor Professor Sanjay Kaushik said that he was not aware of the issue but he assured that the university would take necessary action once the details are received. “We will write to them and work with CBSE and any authorities as required to fix the problem,” he said.
The CBSE spokesperson could not be reached for a comment.
G Kartik Dabas (24), one of the affected candidates, said at least 90 applicants he knows are impacted. Dabas, who secured first division in BA Political Science from Guru Dronacharya Government College in Gurgaon, which is affiliated to Gurugram University, is currently pursuing Master of Arts in History from IGNOU after completing Master of Arts in Political Science. “Those who tried to apply under MDU had their applications rejected and their IDs blocked,” Dabas alleged. “When we went to the CBSE office, we were told to seek an appointment. At the university, they said exams are on and asked us to come later. Applicants live across southern Haryana, so it is not that easy for us to gather every time,” he said. His IGNOU degree can be successfully listed but not those that he pursued from the college, he pointed out.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Panchayat Sangh, a body that represents the interests and concerns of rural population from the Capital and nearby areas, took note of the development and demanded immediate cognisance and rectification from the Ministry of Education and the CBSE.

He told The Indian Express that several affected students approached him three days ago, following which the Sangh wrote to the authorities. No response has been received so far, he added.
The panchayat body has urged both the CBSE and the Ministry of Education to resolve the matter urgently so that qualified candidates are not deprived of employment opportunities. The Delhi Panchayat Sangh has demanded the immediate addition of Gurugram University to the CBSE recruitment portal, reopening of the application window for candidates who could not apply due to the omission, ensuring an updated list of all recognised universities in future recruitments and fixing accountability on the part of officials responsible for the lapse.
