Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Death Anniversary 2025: Today, Thursday marks the death anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj – one of the most prominent 17th-century Indian Maratha warrior kings and the founder of the Maratha Empire.

Shivaji Maharaj has been widely admired for his progressive leadership, military strategy, and steadfast commitment to Swarajya (self-rule). His efforts to free India from foreign rule and emphasis on good governance earned him the standing of a national hero.

Born as Shivaji Bhosale (1630-1680 CE), earlier this year, on 18th February, we commemorated his 395th birth anniversary, and today, we’re observing his 345th death anniversary, as on 1680, April 3, Shivaji Maharaj passed away due to health complications and suffering from severe fever and dysentery at Raigad Fort.

On this day, Maharashtra and other regions honour his legacy through cultural events, processions, and tributes. This year, the President of the Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar – paid tribute to him on X (formerly Twitter), writing,

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who went beyond caste, religion and sect and inaugurated the state of the people, is the highest ideal of bravery, courage, valour, dedication and leadership. Humble tributes to the wise king of the people on his death anniversary.”
