Delhi Metro Phase 4 Expansion: In addition to the recently inaugurated Janakpuri West-Krishna Park Extension in early January 2025, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the country’s longest metro system, now boasts a total length of 394.448 km and 289 stations.

Although it’s operational on the Botanical Garden–Janakpuri West on the Magenta Line, this marked the inauguration of the first section under the Phase-IV network.

The new 2.8-kilometre segment will now run up to Krishna Park Extension, thereby making Magenta Line about 40 kilometres long.

Delhi Metro Phase 4 Expansion Plan: Key routes and features

In addition to the Krishna Park Extension–RK Ashram Marg, the Phase-4 expansion comprises 86 km of new lines across four corridors, and two priority corridors– Majlis Park–Maujpur and Aerocity–Tughlakabad; two more corridors, the Lajpat Nagar–Saket-G Block and Indraprastha–Inderlok Two have received approval and are in pre-tendering stages.

Once operational, the Janakpuri West–RK Ashram Marg extension will receive 144 new coaches (24 trains), while the Mukundpur–Maujpur extension will get 90 coaches (15 trains), and the Aerocity–Tughlakabad corridor 78 coaches (13 trains).

Delhi Metro Phase 4: What is the completion deadline of it?

While the completion of Phase IV was initially scheduled for 2024, the timeline has been extended due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a press release from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the remaining section of the Magenta Line extension, which runs from Krishna Park Extension to RK Ashram Marg, is anticipated to be finished in phases by 2026.

Currently, construction is ongoing for the remaining corridors, with officials estimating that some sections will be operational by mid-2025, while the entire project is expected to be completed by 2026
