After respite, Delhi NCR temperature spikes again; IMD issues heavy rainfall alert in north India

After a few days of respite, heatwave is expected to make a comeback in Delhi NCR and other states over the weekend, forecasted IMD in its recent update. Delhi’s minimum temperature spiked again, while the weather department issued a heatwave alert for Rajasthan. Meanwhile, areas in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir are expected to receive heavy rainfall this weekend.
An upper air cyclonic circulation and trough is set to bring scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds (40-60 kmph) over Northeast and East India during next five days according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh, regions may see isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall on Friday and Saturday. Heavy rainfall likely over Gangetic West Bengal, Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya today and over Arunachal Pradesh on April 22 and 23
Few parts of Bihar, Haryana, and Karnataka might have thundersquall accompanied with lightning and gusting winds with speed up to 70 kmph.
Lightning and gusty winds speeding up to 60 kmph may hit isolated parts of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, south interior Karnataka, and Kerala. Some parts of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Telangana may experience milder conditions.
For the next seven days, moderate rainfall long with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds may hit Kerala and remaining parts of south peninsular India.

The maximum temperature will go upto 39°C, while humidity at 8.30 am was recorded at 47 per cent. The day is expected to have strong winds.

Delhi‘s air quality stood in the ‘poor’ category, with a Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 201 at 9 am, as per data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
Heatwave Conditions
The weather department has predicted heatwave conditions in few parts of Rajasthan today. Marathwada and central Maharashtra region will face hot and humid conditions during April 18 to 21.
Yesterday’s weather conditions
Heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and heavy rainfall at isolated parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim. Hailstorm occurred at isolated parts of Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and East Madhya Pradesh. While west Rajasthan saw severe heat wave conditions.
