Amid the intense heatwave situation in most of the country, Zomato urged its customers to avoid ordering food during ‘peak’ afternoon. The viral post on X has triggered divisive reactions among social media users. While a section slammed the food delivery platform for ‘avoiding’ delivery, many advocated a more humane approach towards delivery partners.
“Pls avoid ordering during peak afternoon unless absolutely necessary,” Zomato wrote on June 2.
Take a look at the viral post here:
The post caught attention in no time as many social media users bashed Zomato. Reacting to it, a user wrote, “A food delivery app is avoiding delivery. not a good idea though; instead, you should focus on how a delivery partner can avoid heat stroke.” Another user commented, “Indirectly don’t eat between 2-4 pm unless absolutely necessary.”
“Is it even real? Though I appreciate the concern, lunchtime orders cannot be postponed to dinner time. If so, Zomato needs to identify “absolutely necessary” orders and not-so-necessary orders,” the third user said.
Many users, on the other hand, supported Zomato with one saying, “I was thinking same thing today, then decided to eat Maggi instead of ordering online.” Another user wrote, “Did the same today . Ordered directly from the Restaurant. Thank you for being so considerate about the delivery boys.”
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday that heatwave conditions are expected to hit many areas of the country on June 3. “Heatwave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Odisha on June 3,” IMD said.
According to the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), as many as 56 people have died as temperatures remained between 44-46 degrees in most of the country. 46 out of 56 people lost their lives in May itself.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting to review the current heatwave conditions in India. Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon arrived on the Kerala coast on Thursday, making its way through parts of northeast India.
