An incident from the Bilaigarh zone of Chhattisgarh’s Sarangarh–Bilaigarh district has once again raised troubling questions about discipline in government schools. At the Government High School, two teachers allegedly abandoned their duties and threw punches inside a classroom packed with students. Witnesses say the sudden scuffle sent children screaming and scrambling out of the room, bringing all learning to an abrupt halt until other staff intervened. District Education Officer (DEO) J R Daharia told Times Of India that the quarrel began when Vineet Dubey, who was supposed to be taking the class, arrived late. In his absence, Manoj Kashyap, another teacher, had stepped in and started teaching Hindi. When Dubey eventually showed up, he reportedly asked Kashyap to leave the class. Tempers flared, insults were exchanged, and, within moments, the dispute turned violent. Eyewitnesses said the two men grappled in full view of the children. CCTV footage from the school later confirmed the brawl, showing frightened students clambering off benches and fleeing through the doors to escape the fight. Both teachers sustained minor injuries. According to the Free Press Journal. parents and other staff members later alleged that Dubey has a history of such behaviour, claiming he frequently arrives late and has clashed with colleagues before. One user questioned the lack of oversight, writing, “If the CCTV camera hadn't been installed, then…??” Another lashed out at the administration, claiming, “By the time the government completes two years, crime, hooliganism, drug addiction, bribery, and high-handedness are at their peak.”
