Travelling on Indian railways is often marred by overcrowding. People rarely get space to sit or stand properly. Now, a video of a man ingeniously navigating one such crowded train coach and creating space for himself is raking up likes on social media.
Video creator Hathim Ismayil has shared a video showing a young boy sleeping on a makeshift hammock made out of a bedsheet. This hammock has been secured on all four sides by the upper births of the coach.
This video has gathered over 9.4 lakh likes on Instagram since it was posted on August 26. Commenting on this video, an Instagram user wrote, “His trust about the blanket is more than we think 🔥🤯”. Another user wrote, “He trust his bedsheet more than train.”
While this person devised an unusual, and potentially dangerous, way of making space for himself, the reality remains that many Indian trains are extremely overcrowded.
In May this year, an X user shared a photograph of passengers reportedly sleeping on the floor of a sleeper coach on the Bidar-Yeshwanthpur Express. In a set of posts, the X user mentioned that the train arrived at the Yeshwanthpur Junction railway station at 10.30 am instead of 7.40 am which caused “3 hours delay to 1000’s of passengers”.
In the follow-up posts, he requested that the number of sleepers and general coaches in trains be increased as well as a new train to Bidar be introduced as “Most of the working class travel from North Karnataka in this train.”
