On Friendship Day, IAS officer shares heartwarming video of ‘inseparable’ elephants, friends for over 55 years. WATCH

Friendship Day in India is celebrated on the first Sunday in August. On the occasion, August 3, IAS officer Supriya Sahu shared a heartwarming video of two elephants, Bhama, 75, and Kamatchi, 65, who have been “inseparable” friends for over 55 years.

According to the viral post, Bhama and Kamatchi do every activity together, including gorging on sugarcane treats. The clip shows the elephants walking side-by-side while flapping their ears at Theppakadu Elephant Camp at Mudumalai, Nilgiris.

“This Friendship Day, we celebrate a bond that has stood the test of time not between humans, but between two magnificent elephants. Bhama (age 75) and Kamatchi (age 65), have been inseparable best friends at our Theppakadu Elephant Camp at , Mudumalai, Nilgiris for over 55 years,” Nanda wrote.

“They eat together, stand side by side, and demand their sugarcane treats as a pair because for them friendship is everything.The TN Forest Dept nurtures this beautiful bond at one of Asia’s oldest camps, home to 30 elephants. Here’s to Bhama and Kamatchi an enduring symbol of love, loyalty, and lifelong friendship,” she said.

The video touched several social media users who hailed the deep friendship between Bhama and Kamatchi. “Bless these two gentle Souls. May we learn some life lessons from them,” a user wrote. “Marvels of friendship,” another user commented.

“What a beautiful story!” a third user reacted.

Meanwhile, Gir’s inseparable adult lions, Jay and Veeru, died weeks apart in separate territorial fights. While Veeru died on June 11, Jay passed away due to severe injuries on July 30. Earlier this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged the inseparable pair during his visit to Gir.
