A man travelling by a Vande Bharat Express train shared photos of the food he was served that left him dissatisfied on Twitter. Himanshu Mukerjee, who describes himself as a rail enthusiast on Twitter, shared photos of the meal he was served while travelling on 22230 Vande Bharat Express plying from Madgaon Junction to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai. Mukerjee also shared photos of the meal he was served on the inaugural run of the train that he described as “delicious”.
He said that time, the food from Ahuja Caterers was served free of cost and now even after paying Rs 250, he was served “stone hard paneer, cold food and stale salty dal”. He said he has been a daily traveller on the Vande Bharat Express and said even curd and sanitiser were now missing but he was mostly miffed about the quality of the food.
“Please lend me a good explanation if your invited guests enjoy such good food, why cant a common paying passenger receive the same quality food.. All such work has already created a worst impression on the passengers,” he wrote in the end.
Posted on July 1, the thread has received more than 1.27 lakh views. Commenting on the post, a user posted a photo of a homemade meal that he said he always carries with him while travelling by train.
“Food in Mumbai Central – Nizamuddin August Kranti rajdhani (Tejas) is also pathetic,” said another. “Yes, the food they provide is waste, I traveled in Duronto Express a few days back, and they charged 700/per person for food but the quality was pathetic, although I spent 30 hours, still, the dynamic pricing of the premium train+ the quality of food is not at all worth,” another user shared.
However, Sidharth, the chief general manager of IRCTC, termed the Twitter thread “politically motivated to tarnish the image of Indian Railways”. Speaking to The Indian Express, he said the tweet is of July 1st but no passenger details or PNR has been provided by the aforementioned passenger till now.
“Since the day of the inauguration, that is June 27, 2023, freshly prepared food is served to all passengers. Both the meal trays are of Express Food only and Ahuja Caterers has never served any food in 22229/30 Vande Bharat Express,” he claimed.
