An Indian man, Yash, who recently visited Dubai, compared the city to Mumbai, his hometown, and pointed out striking differences. While acknowledging that Dubai, as part of a developed nation, has a clear advantage over Mumbai, Yash, who has lived in Mumbai for 40 years, detailed his experiences in a lengthy Reddit post, saying Dubai outpaces Mumbai on several key fronts.

From infrastructure to civic sense to traffic, Yash compared many aspects. “I just came back from a week-long trip to Dubai. When you are back from a developed country, you can see just how far behind we are. I am a Mumbaikar, born and spent 40+ of my life here. This wasn’t my first trip to a developed country, but this time upon returning the differences just hit differently. Non-existent infrastructure, zero civic sense, zero traffic sense, trash and rubble everywhere, pollution so bad it burns your throat,” he wrote on Reddit.

Expressing his frustration with Mumbai, Yash described it as “chaotic” due to its poor infrastructure, lack of road discipline, and constant traffic congestion. He also criticised the city’s pollution and ongoing construction work, emphasising Dubai’s more organised and developed environment.

“I am a lover of this city, but this financial capital of the country is becoming unlivable. Traffic in Dubai can get as bad as Mumbai, but at least no one will cut in front of you. Vehicles will stop at the signals, roads have very clear markings be it for cars or pedestrians,” Yash wrote.

The post quickly garnered traction, with Redditors sharing their opinions on Mumbai. “Simple thing Unplanned city which is very small and overpopulated with uncivilised citizens,” a user wrote.

“You can compare Mumbai to cities in Sri Lanka and you’ll still see us as a backward community. Try Central African countries and we still lose out on civic sense,” another user commented.

“Yup, totally agreed, I have travelled to 12 countries, and i would rate them all better than Mumbai. We lack civic sense, cleanliness, and bad terrible roads,” a third user said.
