‘That’s bananas’: Video shows how banana bunches are transported via cable-pulley system

A video that shows how bunches of bananas are transported across long distances using what appears to be a cable-pulley system, is going viral.

The undated clip shows a man halting traffic on both sides of a road so that a cable carrying a load of bananas is allowed to pass through. Once the bunches are passed, traffic is allowed to resume. The video was reportedly taken in Costa Rica.

It was posted on Instagram by popular account @pubity. So far it has over 11 lakh likes. The most liked comment on the video read, “I can honestly say that I’ve never seen a banana crosswalk. Very innovative.”

An Instagram user wrote, “Craziest part is that this is completely normal and an everyday task that a lot of people have had to stop for for years but to most of us it is an entirely new concept”. Another person wrote, “FYI this is pulled by a person for really long distances and a lot of weight. It is physically very demanding. Huge respect for them. ”.

An Instagram user wittily remarked, “That’s bananas”. As per Inspire More, Costa Rica has a system of transportation called the ‘banana train’ that involves a cable on which fruits are hung. The cable is then moved from one point to another using multiple pulleys.
