Swiggy has released its year-end report for 2024 and unveiled some intriguing food ordering trends across India. Biryani remains the most-ordered dish, with 83 million orders from January 1 to November 22. Hyderabad leads with 9.7 million orders, followed by Bengaluru at 7.7 million and Chennai at 4.6 million.

Earlier this year, Swiggy also shared that approximately 6 million plates of biryani were ordered through the platform during Ramadan 2024 in India. Another interesting data from Swiggy’s year-end report highlighted a Kolkata foodie’s love for the food: a Swiggy user placed an order for biryani at 4.01 am on January 1, 2024.

Swiggy also revealed that biryani ranked the second-most popular option for late-night cravings between 12 and 2 am, while chicken burger took the top spot. Additionally, biryani was one of the most frequently ordered foods on trains. Swiggy collaborated with the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), which makes food deliveries possible at designated stations along train routes through a special feature.

Additionally, in 2024, chicken rolls got the title of the most-ordered snack, with a remarkable 2.48 million orders. Close behind was the beloved chicken momos, recording 1.63 million orders, while potato fries also stood out with 1.3 million orders.

Biryani is not just a favourite on Swiggy. Last year, Zomato, in its year-end report for 2023, revealed that biryani was the most-ordered dish on New Year’s Eve last year.
