The humble omelette has changed its avatar as it has been recreated time and again. Now, a mango-flavoured omelette in the ongoing mango season has been rubbing foodies the wrong way. The special omelette, called ‘mango omelette’, does not include real fruit but is made with copious amounts of mango-flavoured soft drink.
In a video shared by Instagram user @thegreatindianfoodie, a street-side vendor is seen making the unique omelette by first frying two eggs and removing them. He then prepares a mix of boiled egg yolk with spices on the same tawa before adding a mango-flavoured soft drink to it. This mixture is poured over the fried eggs. Next, he chops up the boiled white part of the egg and mixes it with spices and a mango soft drink before adding it to the same plate.

The mix of spices, eggs, and sweetness of mango drinks makes for an interesting taste combination, however, netizens were not pleased with this experimentation.
Commenting on this video, an Instagram user wrote, “I feel there needs to be a proper check over the food vendors serving kinds of food. As certain diet combinations could be disastrous on health. Maaza and omellete seriously ”. Another person said, “People start playing with food without considering the consequences of that.”
This dish seems similar to the now infamous Mango Maggi, which was also made using mango-flavoured soft drinks and a mix of spices.
