OpenAI has rolled out Sora 2, the latest generation of its video model, alongside a brand-new app called Sora. Much like Instagram or TikTok, this app is designed for creating and sharing AI-generated videos, but with a twist. Powered by Sora 2’s upgraded realism, physics, and instruction-following, users can generate strikingly life-like clips straight from text prompts. One of the key features is the ability to design AI avatars of yourself, which OpenAI calls cameos. These cameos can be dropped into any scene you imagine — from wrestling an elephant to playing volleyball on a sunny beach. OpenAI introduced the app with a promotional video featuring CEO Sam Altman, who described Sora 2 as “the most powerful imagination engine ever built.” Sound on. pic.twitter.com/QHDxq6ubGt — OpenAI (@OpenAI) September 30, 2025 Sora 2 trends on social media: Within hours of the announcement, Sora 2 took over X, with creators and tech enthusiasts experimenting with the tool. Popular YouTuber iJustine showcased an entire explainer video generated only through text prompts. Her cameo delivers the narration exactly as instructed. She wrote, “Testing out Sora 2 and the new Sora app… thought I’d try to make an entire video using only prompts and have my cameo avatar say what I tell it to. What do you think?” Testing out Sora 2 and the new Sora app.. thought I’d try to make an entire video using only prompts and have my cameo avatar say what I tell it to. One clip reimagined Rick and Morty through Sora 2, while another showed Sam Altman at a train station, making everyone around him break into dance. Here’s how the process works: Download the app from the Apple App Store or at sora.com. Sign up or log in with your OpenAI account. Set up your cameo by completing a short verification process. You’ll be asked to read a string of numbers and move your head for a quick video-and-audio check. Within a minute, Sora 2 will generate a personalizlsed avatar that looks and sounds like you. From there, you can start creating: type a prompt to make your cameo speak or drop it into different scenarios. You’ll also have the option to decide whether others can use your cameo — make it public, limit it to friends, or keep it private. Videos can then be shared on Sora’s in-app feed, which works much like Instagram Reels or TikTok. Sora 2 trends on Google: The buzz isn’t limited to social media. Searches for the OpenAI Sora app have spiked on Google, with over 20,000 people looking it up in the last 24 hours.
