According to Dr Nimbalkar, the airline staff screamed for help after the 34-year-old passenger lost consciousness.
Doctor Anjali Nimbalkar, who is also a former Congress MLA, resuscitated a woman passenger from the US after she fell ill mid-air on Saturday. The incident happened on a Delhi-bound flight from Goa.
According to Dr Nimbalkar, the airline staff screamed for help after the 34-year-old passenger lost consciousness.
“She was unconscious, her pulse was falling, and I gave her CPR, and she managed to regain consciousness,” Dr Nimbalkar said.
The doctor found that the passenger was suffering from stomach ailments and had not had any food since Friday, but had popped a few tablets before the flight took off.
The passenger, Jenny, was given electrolyte water, and she appeared to recover, but again fell ill. “With no IV line on the flight,” Dr Nimbalkar said, “I started resuscitating her again. I asked the air hostess, ‘How much time for landing?’ and she said, ‘One and a half hours.’ I panicked and thought I would lose her by the time we landed. But miracles do happen. After 15-20 minutes, our efforts started giving results, and she regained pulse and BP.”
“In the meantime, I told an air hostess to arrange for an ambulance at the tarmac. All the flight attendants did their best and helped me during the flight. We got priority landing, and an ambulance was waiting to take the passenger to the hospital,” Dr Nimbalkar added.
Jenny is from California, and she is staying with her in-laws in Delhi. Coincidentally, her mother-in-law’s name is also Anjali, and she is a doctor too.
