Five-year-old girl kidnapped, sexually assaulted and murdered in Pune’s Maval taluka, suspect arrested

“Since it was a case of a minor girl missing, a kidnapping case was registered. Multiple teams including those from the local police station and crime branch were deployed for the search of the girl. Based on some technical leads, including CCTV camera footage, we identified the suspect. A team conducted a massive search operation following this. The suspect was placed under arrest in the early hours of Sunday. During the interrogation, the suspect revealed to us that he had strangled the girl and gave the location where he had kept the body of the girl. The girl’s body has been sent to the state run Yashwantrao Memorial Hospital for a post mortem examination and a full forensic analysis of the evidence is being conducted. Preliminary probe points to sexual assault. The detailed medical reports are awaited and accordingly relevant legal provisions will be invoked.” said the officer.

The officer added, “Investigation suggests that the girl and her brother were playing in the area when the suspect offered her chocolate and lured her to go with him. Further probe is on to establish the sequence of events. The girl’s family and the accused are from outside Maharashtra and have moved to Pune for work.”
