Thief breaks into US house, gets thrashed by 82-yr-old woman bodybuilder

Murphy, who works out almost daily at Rochester's Maplewood YMCA and claimed she could deadlift 225 pounds — more than twice her weight, attacked the man with almost anything she could find within arms reach.

Willie Murphy impressed not only the local cops who rushed to help her but also people online.

A thief who broke into a home in Rochester of an 82-year-old woman had no inkling of the misery that was in store for him. Much to the surprise of the thief, the elderly woman turned out to be an award-winning powerlifter. On discovering the intruder, the woman thrashed him with a table and beat him so badly that he had to be hospitalised.

Willie Murphy was getting ready for bed at her home in Rochester when a man began pounding on her door, urging her to call an ambulance for him. However, sensing something was amiss, Murphy refused to open it. Soon, the man broke in the house through the back door.

Even though it was quite dark, Murphy was able see the intruder walking through her house and grabbed the closest thing she could find to stop him.

“It’s kind of semi-dark and I’m alone, and I’m old. But guess what, I’m tough,” she told local outlet WHAM, showing her muscular arms. “He picked the wrong house to break into.”

Murphy, who works out almost daily at Rochester’s Maplewood YMCA and claimed she could deadlift 225 pounds — more than twice her weight, attacked the man with almost anything she could find within arms reach.

“She clobbered him with a table, poured shampoo in his face and was beating him with a broom when police arrived,” NBC New York reported.

The man did get his desired ambulance ride but not as he would have preferred. “I was whaling on that man,” Murphy told the Democrat and Chronicle. “‘Cause I said to myself, ‘If it’s my time to go to hell, I’m taking him with me!'”

Calling her “tough as nails”, the cops lauded Murphy for her efforts and shared a photo on their official Twitter handle with the woman.
