Australian solo backpacker Duncan McNaught has shared a heartfelt video on Instagram, in which he speaks about the overwhelming generosity he received from strangers during his trip to India.

Calling India’s hospitality “unmatched like any other in the world,” Duncan said the warmth he received left him deeply moved.

In the emotional clip, he recounted a man, whom he had met just a few days earlier, went out of his way to make him feel at home. “I met Gaurav three days ago. Three days ago. He took me and fed me. I went to a wedding function with their family. He took me to the Golden Temple. Now he’s got me a bus to Jaipur.”

His post quickly struck a chord online, with many users saying his experience beautifully reflected India’s spirit of “Atithi Devo Bhava” – the belief that “a guest is equivalent to God.”

A user wrote, “I agree 110%. I went there recently and it was amazing especially the people.” Another user commented, “Everything has a good side and a bad side… Glad you have got to see the good side of our Nation.”

A third person added, “In India, Guest are GOD to us and our Philosophy is The World is a big Family.” A fourth individual commented, “Thats so true ! Indians have a lot of qualities which others don’t have , just some indians need to improve on civic sense, assimilation in west (if they are coming ) etc etc.”
