A recent video posted on X by “Nature is Amazing”, an account well-known for sharing content on animals, captured a meticulous oral grooming routine of one of the biggest land animals – the hippopotamus. The video has gone viral, racking up nearly 500,000 views.
In the video, a giant hippo is seen standing with its enormous mouth agape. A caretaker, not visible in the video, carefully scrubs the hippo’s teeth, tongue and the insides of its mouth with a sponge-like brush. The hippo remains composed, showcasing the strong bond of trust between the animal and its handler.

The video has amused a lot of X users. One commented, “They love getting there teeth cleaned.” Another user said, “The one in back waiting his turn. They seem to enjoy it.”
“This one looks friendly, just remember, in the wild hippos are extremely territorial and will flip boats and kill people,” a third user wrote. Another X user said, “This is just too cute! Who would have thought hippos could be so gentle?”
Another video shared by the same account in March captured a similar scene. The video, which has garnered over 26.6 million views by now, shows another giant hippopotamus opening it’s gigantic mouth in front of a caretaker. The man can be seen giving the giant’s teeth a good rub, first with his hands and then with a brush.
Responding to this video, a user said, “On your first day, don’t ask what happened to the last person doing this job.” Another one commented, “Wondering how this went the first time. Are they on their fifth keeper??”
