All about Modern Talking

The German pop duo comprised singer, Thomas Anders, and arranger, songwriter, and producer Dieter Bohlen. Formed in 1983 in West Berlin, the duo emerged as one of the most influential German bands with compelling songs like “You’re My Soul”, “You’re My Heart”, “Brother Louie”, “Atlantis Is Calling”, and “Cheri, Cheri Lady”, among others.

The duo split in mid-1987—reportedly because Dieter Bohlen started his project, Blue System, and created songs like “My Bed Is Too Big”, “Love Suite”, “Deja Vu”, and others. On the other hand, Thomas Anders continued to perform worldwide under the name, Modern Talking. He also released solo albums in English—“Down on Sunset”, “When Will I See You Again”, “Different”, and “Souled”.

After separation, the duo decided to get back together in 1998 for a German TV show, Wetten, dass..? But their patch-up did not last long and they parted ways for the second time over Bohlen’s negative portrayal of Anders’ autobiography.

The creation of Cheri, Cheri Lady

Bohlen and Andres created the said masterpiece in 1985. The song is from their second studio album, Let’s Talk About Love, and emerged in the top 1 on the German Singles Chart. “Cheri, Cheri Lady” dominated the charts for a month and around 24 weeks on the German chart and sold more than 250,000 units.
