WhatsApp adds party popper emoji as seventh default message reaction

WhatsApp, the go-to instant messaging platform for billions worldwide, is gearing up for the holiday season. The Meta-owned company recently announced that the latest update will add the default message reaction for Android and iOS devices.

The new feature aims to make it easy for users to react to messages with the party popper emoji without going through the entire emoji tray. This is really useful as previously, users had to manually find the emoji in the emoji picker menu.

In addition to the emoji now being available on the default reaction tray, WhatsApp says it is also adding confetti animations for emojis like the Confetti Ball, Partying Face and Party Popper. When users react to messages with the aforementioned emojis, they will see colourful confetti popping up on the screen.

While the addition of the party popper emoji to the default reaction tray is most likely temporary, the animated confetti feature is likely to stay even after the end of the holiday season.

For those wondering, the party popper emoji in the reaction bar and the related animations are available on individual and group chats and even work in channels. These new features are currently available on the latest version of WhatsApp on both Android and iOS, so make sure to update your WhatsApp from the respective app stores.

Just ahead of the holiday season, WhatsApp rolled out a bunch of new features that are aimed at enhancing the audio and video calling experience.
