Meta-owned popular social media platform, Facebook, has an interesting new addition for its millions of users. On Monday, September 22, the platform announced its AI-powered dating assistant and Meet Cute along with two new Facebook Dating features. The platform said that the latest addition is aimed at offering fresh ways for its users to connect with the people they want to date.

The chatbot has been designed to help users to find matches that are closer to what the user is looking for. This could also help users refine their profile.

“Hundreds of thousands of young adults (ages 18–29) in the US and Canada create Facebook Dating profiles every month, and young adult matches are up 10 per cent year over year. We want to help you meet more people you’re interested in without having to resort to endless swiping or paying to unlock product features,” the company said in its official post.

Facebook Dating is a free dating experience within the Facebook app that makes it easier to find matches by meeting and starting conversations with people based on shared interests.

According to the platform, its Dating Assistant is a chat assistant within Facebook Dating that offers personalised assistance to users on their dating journey. The dating assistant is located in the Matches tab. The company said that the feature will roll out gradually in the US and Canada.

On the other hand, Meet Cute is a feature that can help with the indecision fatigue of online dating. It automatically matches a user with a surprise match based on their personalised matching algorithm. A user can choose to chat with their match or unmatch to pass on the conversation. According to the platform, Meet Cute is best suited for those who are tired of swiping and are looking for a fresh way to expand their dating pool. Meet Cute matches will be made weekly, and Facebook is also considering the option of other frequencies. A user can opt out of the feature at any time.

The Facebook Dating feature, which was launched in the US and other countries in 2019, is not available in India. Even though the platform is reportedly expanding its dating service to new regions, as of now India continues to remain outside its list of supported countries.
