More workers around the world are struggling to contend with burnout, heavy workloads, and overwhelming stress, but many are optimistic that artificial intelligence could help ease these problems, according to a new HP survey released on Tuesday.
In fact, only 27 percent of knowledge workers feel they have a healthy relationship with their work. That’s a significant problem—for employees and for businesses, as no company can succeed in the long term without a motivated and engaged workforce.
HP Inc’s Work Relationship Index, which aimed to learn more about people’s relationships with their jobs, surveyed 15,600 respondents in 12 countries across various industries and countries, including India. The findings reveal that morale is low in workplaces across the globe.
While some people have feared that AI may replace human workers, there is a growing perspective that AI can actually improve relationships at work.
Findings from the study
More than 55 per cent of workers surveyed said artificial intelligence will open up new opportunities at work while 75 per cent of business leaders said AI will make jobs easier.
“AI represents a significant opportunity to transform our work dynamics and unlock a more positive and productive environment for all,” said Dave Shull, President of HP Workforce Solutions at HP Inc. ahead of the HP Amplify Partner Conference in Las Vegas.
Is AI a threat to jobs?
Generative AI isn’t the most buzzed topic in tech, but it is also changing the workforce and organizations. Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence capable of generating images, text, or other content. The technology is expected to boost productivity, cut costs, and create new growth opportunities across a wide range of industries. Ever since the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, an AI chatbot built on a large language model that helps users come up with answers to questions, it has sparked debate about the potential of how AI can revolutionize industries and work — and possibly even make jobs redundant.

How do I keep up in the AI-dominated world?
To keep up with workloads in the AI-centric job market, 73 percent of business leaders and 66 percent of knowledge workers surveyed said there is a need for proper AI training. However, the study shows there is uncertainty over the implementation of AI in the workspace. In fact, nearly 42 percent of knowledge workers don’t know when to use AI at work. While AI is unlikely to solve problems overnight, the survey found that the technology is giving some hope for the future. A majority of workers believe it is the responsibility of business leaders to implement the right AI strategy in the workplace and educate employees on the benefits of AI, according to the survey.
AI is expected to automate more “routine-oriented” tasks which used to be a significant part of daily work, leaving employees with more time to spend on tasks that are more knowledge-oriented.
