RCB vs CSK: Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) late resurgence has been the story of the IPL 2024 season so far.

After languishing at the bottom of the points table in the first part of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) season, RCB have turned the tide and now with five wins on the bounce they are currently placed at No 5 and are still alive for the IPL playoffs race.

RCB now have 12 points from 13 matches and need a win in the RCB vs CSK game in the last league match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 18 to push their case for a playoff berth.

Ahead of RCB vs CSK, here’s how RCB can qualify for the playoffs

The late resurgence after sixth straight loss has propelled Faf du Plessis side to the fifth place. The RCB vs CSK clash is a must-win match for Bengaluru. Even if Royal Challengers Bengaluru win RCB vs CSK, they will have to depend on the other results to go their way. RCB would need SRH to lose both their remaining games and LSG to lose at least one of their two games.

In any scenario, they would look to beat CSK (0.528) by a decent margin, which takes their net run rate higher than CSK’s. If the other results go their way, RCB stand a good chance of qualifying for the IPL Playoffs with a better Net Run Rate than CSK.

RCB’s NRR is +0.387, while CSK’s is +0.528. A close win will not help RCB’s cause as it will keep them below SRH and CSK, who have a superior NRR.

However, should Chennai Super Kings fail to win the RCB vs CSK IPL match, their qualification hopes will depend on other results. They would need either SRH or LSG to lose one of their matches and finish below 16 points in the standings to boost their chances. Additionally, if CSK suffer a loss, they must ensure that their margin of defeat is minimal to maintain their advantage over RCB in terms of run rate. Furthermore, if both SRH and LSG finish with 14 or fewer points, it creates the possibility for both CSK and RCB to qualify with 14 points each.
