IPL 2022: Shivam Dube’s game flowers under security offered by supportive CSK team

In the last five games, Shivam Dube has scores like 95 not out, 57 and 49 runs. He managed to find consistency which he didn't in his previous franchise. While backing his ability, Dube showed the temperament to rescue his team from tough situations.

What is the first thing Shivam Dube heard from Mahendra Singh Dhoni after joining Chennai Super Kings (CSK)? “Tu acha player hai, Tera game acha hai. (You are a good player). Just play your natural game and don’t think so much.”

At CSK’s one-on-one interaction, players, who have played in the past and present, say that they boost the confidence of every player, even those who are not in Playing Eleven. They tell them clearly what the team is looking for from them and assure them they will get enough games to prove their mettle.

In the last five games, Dube has scores like 95 not out, 57 and 49 runs. He managed to find consistency which he didn’t in his previous franchise. While backing his ability, Dube showed the temperament to rescue his team from tough situations.

After his glittering 95 not out of 46 balls, Dube stated that his team has given him the security which has helped him in his performance. CSK defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday night courtesy Dube and Robin Uthappa’s smartly put together 88 runs which led to a165 run – third wicket stand.

“They (CSK) have given me security. I always back my game, I am hitting balls which I feel are there to be hit, I am connecting well, so my confidence is quite high. I am trying to play my natural game,” Dube said during the post-match match press conference.

This support reflected in his free approach towards the game. Dube says he is not doing anything extra, it’s just that he is batting well which has given him the confidence.

“What I have been trying to do for a long time, I am able to execute that. It’s the same as what I was doing at the domestic level, in Ranji Trophy. But when you play at this level you have to raise your game to a higher level. My idea is to not think too much, back myself, keep my balance and just back my basic game, not do anything extra. Just that I am playing well and my confidence is high,” he added.

His close friends says he has just gone and followed his process. Going to practice in the morning followed by gym and practice in the evening too. With a new-born baby in the family, Dube is enjoying fatherhood but he complains about having to wake up in the middle of night.

On the field, his batting has looked different this season. On Wednesday at DY Patil Stadium, CSK started slow in the first half of their game. They were two for 36 runs in their 6.4 overs. The team had a momentum shift after 10 overs with Dube and Uthappa charging at RCB’s bowlers.

Dube was asked about the change in momentum. He explained, “We were not talking much, the bowlers we thought we can hit, sometimes he was hitting and sometimes I was doing it. Our confidence went up. At the start the ball was gripping a bit, after that we thought we will attack. Only in the starting it was difficult to hit as the new ball was gripping, after that we backed ourselves and the game changed.”

Going ahead, Dube will be certainly hoping to get a few more big innings under his belt and CSK will hope to come back with more wins.
