Lionel Messi scored again as Inter Miami reached the final of the Leagues Cup after beating Philadelphia Union 4-1 in a one-sided semifinal on Tuesday.

It was Messi’s ninth goal for his new club. So far, all his goals have come in the same tournament.

Messi scored in the 20th minute with a long-range strike from beyond the penalty area after he was afforded space about 30 yards from goal in open play. Taking advantage, he unleashed a low effort past the diving Blake and inside the right post.

Fans erupted and went wild when he scored past diving goalkeeper Andre Blake. Messi ran with his arms extended, then punched his fist in the air as he leapt in celebration.

Messi will now have a shot at his first silverware when Inter Miami take on Nashville SC or CF Monterrey in the final.

Messi’s former FC Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba also netted his first goal for the Herons when he scored in the 45th min.

Josef Martinez and David Ruis were the other goalscorers.

For Philadelphia, Alejandro Bedoya pulled a late goal, but by that time, it was too little too late.

Meanwhile, Union coach Jim Curtin spoke on their rivals and predicted them to be the best in the league and said, “They’re only going to get better. That Miami team is gonna go. Their ownership is going to spend like crazy. They’re going to make them the best team in the league. They might already be the best team in the league. That’s coming and I don’t think anything’s stopping them.”
