Following Team India's recent Champions Trophy victory in Dubai, we saw head coach Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli sharing laughs, high-fives, and tight hugs. However, during their playing days, there was no love lost between Gambhir, the former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain, and Virat Kohli, the former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain. The two were involved in a heated on-field altercation after an IPL 2013 match. Kohli and Gambhir exchanged words and had to be separated by players from both teams. When the spat was shown live to the world – interestingly the broadcaster historically known to blank out anything that brings IPL to disrepute didn’t ask their cameras to look away. On Saturday, Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru to kick-start the 18th edition of the IPL. What happened? Twelve years ago, Kohli and Gambhir were involved in an ugly spat at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Gambhir, then captain of KKR had a go at his counterpart Kohli, while celebrating his wicket. Things escalated with Kohli instead of trudging back to the pavilion, walked towards extra short cover and apparently made a remark. Suddenly, Gambhir was seen walking angrily towards his Delhi and India teammate. However, it was another Delhi lad Rajat Bhatia, who got in between them and separated both of them or things might have gone out of hand.
