Three Indian-origin truckers arrested in Canada over shootout

Peel Regional Police have arrested three Indian-origin truck drivers in connection with a violent shootout between rival tow-truck groups in Brampton, Ontario.

Three Indian-origin truck drivers were arrested in connection with a shootout between two rival tow-truck groups in Canada, Peel Regional Police has said, adding that the search was still on for the fourth remaining suspect. The police also shared a video of the shootout in Brampton on X.

Police identified the three men as Manoj Bhatti, 26, Navjot Bhatti, 27, and Amanjot Bhatti, 22. The police said the incident took place on October 7 around 10:45 pm (local time) at a parking lot in McVean Drive area and Castlemore Road, which resulted in firearms being discharged.

During the shootout, one of the involved individuals also sustained minor physical injuries.

The arrests were made after a lengthy investigation and during search warrant execution at a residence in Caledon on November 20.

The police said as a result, investigators located and arrested the suspects, with these charges:

Manjot Bhatti was charged with the following offences:

  • Intentionally discharge a firearm recklessly.
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or restricted firearm.
  • Careless storage of a firearm.
  • Carrying a concealed weapon.
  • Knowledge of unauthorised possession of a firearm.
  • An occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm.

He was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton and has since been released on bail.

Navjot Bhatti and Amanjot Bhatti were charged with:

Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm

Both were released on an undertaking with conditions to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton at a later date.

Investigators were still seeking to identify individuals from the other involved group, primarily the outstanding suspect who discharged a firearm as depicted in the attached photo. The suspect is described as a male, South Asian and was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and white running shoes.
