Three marquee World Cup games at Narendra Modi stadium – Opening tie, Indo-Pak & final

India open against Australia in Chennai and to play Pakistan in Ahmedabad on October 15; In case India make it to the semifinals, they will play the fixture at the Wankhede Stadium.

ICC ODI World Cup 2023 Schedule Announced: India will open their World Cup campaign against Australia on October 8 in Chennai while their much anticipated group stage clash with Pakistan will be at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 15, as first reported by the Indian Express.

Rohit Sharma captained-Team India will begin their campaign three days after the tournament begins when they will face 5-time champions Australia. India will then move to Delhi to take on Afghanistan on October 11, followed by the high-profile game against Pakistan in Ahmedabad on October 15.

Rohit Sharma & Co’s next two fixtures are against Bangladesh in Pune on October 19, before they head to Dharamshala to face New Zealand in a tricky fixture on October 22. They will have a six-day break before taking on England at Lucknow. Their last three fixtures are on November 2, 5 and 11 at Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru. While they face South Africa at the Eden Gardens, Mumbai and Bengaluru will see the hosts taking on Qualifier I and II.

According to the schedule, in case India make it to the semifinals, they will play the fixture at the Wankhede Stadium. However, in case it is India vs Pakistan, then the semifinals will be hosted by Eden Gardens because of security reasons.

After a long delay, with 100 days to go for the World Cup, the International Cricket Council announced the fixtures for the tournament set to be played in India from October 5 to November 19. The World Cup, a 10-team event, will commence in Ahmedabad with 2019 finalists England and New Zealand featuring in the opener at Narendra Modi Stadium. The venue will also play host to the final on November 19 with Wankhede Stadium and Eden Gardens hosting the semifinals on November 15 and 16.

In all the World Cup will be played in Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Delhi, Dharamshala, Kolkata, Pune. Among the venues that were in contention and to miss out include Nagpur, Mohali and Guwahati.

Pakistan, who have expressed their reservation about playing India in Ahmedabad, play their other league matches in Hyderabad (two), Bengaluru (Australia), Chennai (Afghanistan and South Africa), Kolkata (Bangladesh & England) and Bengaluru (New Zealand).
