Candidates Chess 2024: On a day that has the potential to decide the fate of the Candidates 2024, Ian Nepomniachtchi defeated Vidit Santosh Gujrathi in a marathon battle while Gukesh, the 17-year-old from India, was held to a draw by the World No 2 Fabiano Caruana — results which helped the Russian to leapfrog into sole lead of the tournament with just three more rounds left.

Gukesh and Nepomniachtchi were joint leaders coming into Round 11.

The other game of Round 10 involving an Indian player — the clash between Praggnanandhaa and Hikaru Nakamura — ended in defeat for the 18-year-old from India as the American continued his remarkable resurgence.

In the women’s section, Humpy defeated women’s leader Tan Zhongyi to a draw. Meanwhile, Vaishali managed to defeat Nurgyul Salimova in an incredible battle to register a rare win in the tournament.
