During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Kerala visit, his meeting with Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan grabbed eyeballs. Along with actors Aparna Balamurali and Navya Nair, Mukundan was present at the Yuvam Conclave on Monday and had a conversation with the PM.

Taking to Facebook about the meeting after the programme, reportedly at the Taj Malabar hotel in Cochin, Mukundan wrote on Monday: “This is the most electrifying post from this account! Thank you sir, from seeing you afar as a 14-year-old and now finally Meeting you, I’m yet to recover! Your, ‘Kem cho Bhaila’ on stage literally shook me up! It was one big dream that I had to meet u and talk to you in Gujarati! It’s done and what a way it has been! 45 mins of your time, is the best 45 mins of my life! I will never forget a word you told me… every Advice will be put to practice and implemented! Aavtha rehjo Sir, JaishriKrsn.”

Earlier this month, there were rumours of the actor joining politics and talk of him being the MP candidate from Palakkad. Responding to the speculation, Mukundan wrote on Instagram, “Just got to know about the news regarding me joining politics. It’s FAKE. I am working on my film Gandharva JR. It’s a long schedule. I’ll keep you posted. Also, extending my humble request to the media houses to kindly check the authenticity of such information before airing them. It’s unfair that I have to clear things over and over again. I have high regard for politicians and politics alike because of their impact on society. I don’t take politics for granted.”

Mukundan who was born to Malayali parents in Gujarat made his film debut in 2011 with Tamil film Seedan. He entered the Malayalam film industry through Bombay March 12 alongside Mammootty, directed by Babu Janardhanan. Mukundan’s breakthrough movie is considered to be Mallu Singh (2012) directed by Vyshakh. He has recently appeared in films such as Mallikapuram (2022); Sheffikinte Santhosham (2022); and Yashoda (2022), among others. Malikappuram, a huge hit, revolves around an eight-year-old girl who wants to visit Sabarimala.

Mukundan was named in a harassment case in 2017 that was registered under IPC section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty). Advocate Saiby Jose, who was accused of trying to bribe judges of the Kerala High Court, represented him in court through the trial. The Kerala High Court stayed the proceedings in the case on May 7, 2021, after the actor’s counsel said the case had been settled out of court. However, in February, the court vacated the interim order after the complainant’s counsel submitted that Mukundan had produced a false affidavit in her name about the matter being settled out of court.
